- Launch Pathfinder Office. Go to Utilities > Import.
- Select ESRI Shapefile Setup in the "Choose an Import Setup" pull down box. Select the shape file by using the Browse… button. Click Properties…Select Data Dictionary Only as the Type of Data to Import. This will pull the schema off the shapefile and bring it in to edit. Select Ok to store the settings.
- Select the second Browse… button under "output file" and give the .ddf a name and location. Select Save.
- Select Ok to import the data dictionary. You will hopefully receive a dialog like this:
- Select Close. Go to Utilities > Data Dictionary Editor... Select File > Open. Open the dictionary saved in step 4.
- Select the feature you want to edit and select Edit Feature. Go to the style tab and change the style as required:
- Select OK and continue editing features as needed. When finished, save the data dictionary and close Data dictionary editor.
- Select Utilities > Import. Select the input shapefile with the first browse button. Choose the ESRI sample shapefile setup. Select Properties. Select Features with external data dictionary. Browse to the dictionary we created in step 7. Set coordinate systems and other required information on the other tabs. Select Ok.
- Select Ok to finish the import. You should receive a message like this:
- Now transfer the .imp file created to your GPS using data transfer utility. You should see the schema set on your screen.
